Baby Jesus Freak

It's started. The London run of Ian Winterton's Baby Jesus Freak opened last night to a select (Um... very select) preview audience. They enjoyed it and the sister production of Stage Kiss (which is very funny but obviously I must support the play I'm in).

The pair are on from now until Good Friday (22 April) and tickets are available on the door or online via The Space website. I look forward to seeing you there.

Personal News and Running (14/02/11)

Happy Saint Valentine's Day. Not that I really give a monkeys, or even did when I wasn't single, but at last we don't have it's namesake clogging up the cinemas this year. Just thought I'd quickly brief on the latest personal news.

Theatre& have extended my contract for another 4 months - most unexpected and delightful - so I'm not horribly unemployed at the moment. I also have 'Baby Jesus Freak' touring to London in a few months, see the press release here, so it's all go this end.

On the running front I have, after an extended hiatus, returned to pounding the pavement. I've been out 9 times in the last 2 weeks racking up a total of 27.4 miles over 4 hours 32 minutes (I know that's quite a shrt average but I'm only just getting back into it). That's an average of 6.04 mph so I need to pick up my pace if I have any plans of joining a marathon this year.

Personal News (02/08/10)

Baby Jesus Freak is now over, or at least over for now there are rumours that it will resurface in the spring. I have shaved and cut my hair and now look less like a homeless accountant and more like my old self. (It's an odd thing acting when you try to look as different as possible from yourself).

Today I am off to start my Theatre& contract. I'm a little excited and nervous as I really don't know anything about the job, but I will keep you informed of what's going on.

That said posting here will go to pot over the next 6 months. I have weekends off so I should get a chance to do the news and out this week posts even if they're a day late, birthdays and Tuesday trailers will of course continue and I'll let you know how the marathon goes, but personal posts will probably stop until something major happens I can't make any promises about reviewing films (we'll see next week if I get a chance to talkk about Tom and Cameron) and replying to comments will almost certainly be delayed - please accept my humble apologies and I hope you enjoy what does appear here.

Love to all

Ben

Personal News - Extra bits

"Baby Jesus Freak" has a review.

It's available on remotegoat and it's a well balanced positive review. So I'm happy.

That's all really.

Personal (18/07/10)

Just a quick note to let you know that the first three performances of "Baby Jesus Freak" went very well, we had pretty good audiences and I think we were all more than satisfied with our performances. (Although I personally thought I went a bit eggy in one scene).

We also held discussions with the audience after each of the performances to discuss the issues raised in the play such as the Woman's Right to choose and the very nature of existence. If anyone reads this who attended I'd like to thank you for your contribution to the discussion.

We now have few days of well earned rest before the second wave of performances at the Continental in Preston on Saturday and Sunday at 8 where we will be part of the Preston Tringe Festival. I look forward to seeing you there.

Personal News (04/07/10)

Another week with little to expand on my personal musings, I've not been applying for anything on the basis I only have one month before I start my corporate contract so I can't audition for anything too long term - I also have a ridiculous beard for Baby Jesus Freak, which limits my casting opportunities. I suppose I could talk about how I completed my tax return today, 7 months ahead of the deadline I'll have you know... But it's really not that interesting. All I need now is a rich sugar daddy to pay it.

We're getting very close to Baby Jesus Freak, now. It's on in just under 2 weeks, tickets are available for the performances at The Continental, Preston - where we're performing as part of the Presto Tringe (Fringe) festival. They can be purchased here. Tickets for the Lass O'Gowrie, Manchester on 16-18, 26 and 28 July will be available soon, or on the door.

Oh, and if I haven't explained it the plot goes a little something like this:

Drunk at his mother’s funeral, Born Again Christian Daniel falls into bed with non-believer Lauren. Putting his mistake behind him, Daniel promptly falls in love with Beth. But, proving that God definitely has a sense of humour, Lauren phones with some news: she’s pregnant...

Personal News - 27/06/10

Not much new to say today, so I'll keep it brief. Rehearsals are going well for "Baby Jesus Freak". Nothing else on the agenda as there's only a month before my Corporate contract starts.

Um... that's all.

Personal News (13/06/10)

This week I have had a very nice lesson in not lowering my expectations. Over the last couple of weeks I have had a couple of auditions that I was disappointed with - however it turns out that I need not have been.

I have been offered a five month contract with Theatre&, to start in August, and I've also got a role in Baby Jesus Freak; the play I was not invited back for a second audition for last week. In it I will be playing a Priest and a Counsellor. Rehearsals start tomorrow night.

Overall I've been pretty overjoyed.

(Still no Normal Heart news though!)

Personal News (06/06/10)

The dearth of news this week is something. I honestly thought on Wednesday that I would have nothing to say at all, what with "The Normal Heart" second audition still drifting away in the future.

However I got an e-mail on Thursday inviting me to an audition for "Baby Jesus Freak", a new play by Ian Winterton. What I've read so far is really good, with the relationship between 2 brothers brought up in a religious household and dealing with their parents death and a love triangle developing is really well conceived and feels utterly beleiveable when reading it.

I went to the audition this afternoon, and the director said we would know this evening if we're up for a second audition or not. I guess they'll definitely be more to report back next week.

Addendum: Got the e-mail this morning (07/06/10, 07:00), thanks but no thanks. Oh well, maybe next time, and i's still a great script.
