Now retired from acting, but still heavily involved with the touring circuit, Juanita entered the business at an exciting time for African American stars, from being typecast as domestic servants (see her oscar nommed turn in Douglas Sirk's Imitation of Life) through to the black political movies from the 1970's Moore was in there all the way.

last year i was lucky enough to participate in Stinkylulu's Supporting Actress smackdown for 1959.
Juanita definitely got my vote (I think I had actually went for 5 stars). she was the obvious winner, just like Ethel Waters was 10 years before for Pinky.
That was a very odd year for the supporting actresses and perhaps if Susan Kohner hadn't also received a nod she might have got the statue.
