Anjelica Huston

Happy Birthday to

Anjelica Huston

59 today

Anjelica had one of the greatest starts in show business that you could imagine, the daughter of the legendary director John Huston and granddaughter of Walter Huston. Yet she chose very much to go it alone, minor roles and walk-ons filled her early years slowly building her own reputation, eventually picking up an oscar for Prizzi's Honor. I'm still pretty unsure about the twitcher movie The Big Year coming next year, but I am a little more interested knowing she's in it.

that Oscar win for Prizzi's Honor is sooooooo undeserved and I've actually seen the film again in the past year. the two women from The Color Purple were brilliant.

other than that, I think she's a great presence on screen and there's never gonna be a better Morticia Adams.

I don't mind when they're just talking about viagra, but having a link is really bad.

I'd forgotten she was Morticia - and an absolutely perfect one at that - I always think of her Witches role whenever she springs to mind. That came out just at the right age for me to get really into it.

Do you recall Paul Simon's cameo in "Annie Hall"? When he, as character Tony Lacey, invites Annie and Alvy to join him in a night out with Jack and Angelica? Think he was referring to her and Nicholson?

I had trouble with "Prizzi's Honor" at first, and later came to realize that it was SO subtle that the barbs barely zing you, but when they do, they are quite funny. I think Houston was highly touted that year, and her role was rather smallish, but she was absolutely perfect throughout.

Like most of John Huston's works, especially towards the latter half of his career, you do have to watch several times to pick up on the nuances that he and his actors put in there.

I'd never picked up on Paul Simon comments before but I guess you're right. Trust Woody Allen to slip in these tiny pop-culture references.
