Just a quick note of catch up. I found out this week that I didn't get into either of the Drama Schools I applied for - which maybe explains why I've been a little pissy in the comments this weekend. It's a shame as I would've liked the opportunity to go back to learning mode - that said it opens up as many doors as it closes. I've been offered another month with Theatre& which I've accepted and I've applied for some fringe productions (the first audition is next weekend) but I need to think long and hard about how to move my career into a new phase - any advice would be greatly appreciated right now.
By the way I also now have an IMDB page of my very own. Why not take a look (not that there's anything interesting on it) here.

Personal News and Running (14/02/11)
Happy Saint Valentine's Day. Not that I really give a monkeys, or even did when I wasn't single, but at last we don't have it's namesake clogging up the cinemas this year. Just thought I'd quickly brief on the latest personal news.
Theatre& have extended my contract for another 4 months - most unexpected and delightful - so I'm not horribly unemployed at the moment. I also have 'Baby Jesus Freak' touring to London in a few months, see the press release here, so it's all go this end.
On the running front I have, after an extended hiatus, returned to pounding the pavement. I've been out 9 times in the last 2 weeks racking up a total of 27.4 miles over 4 hours 32 minutes (I know that's quite a shrt average but I'm only just getting back into it). That's an average of 6.04 mph so I need to pick up my pace if I have any plans of joining a marathon this year.

Personal News (02/08/10)
Baby Jesus Freak is now over, or at least over for now there are rumours that it will resurface in the spring. I have shaved and cut my hair and now look less like a homeless accountant and more like my old self. (It's an odd thing acting when you try to look as different as possible from yourself).
Today I am off to start my Theatre& contract. I'm a little excited and nervous as I really don't know anything about the job, but I will keep you informed of what's going on.
That said posting here will go to pot over the next 6 months. I have weekends off so I should get a chance to do the news and out this week posts even if they're a day late, birthdays and Tuesday trailers will of course continue and I'll let you know how the marathon goes, but personal posts will probably stop until something major happens I can't make any promises about reviewing films (we'll see next week if I get a chance to talkk about Tom and Cameron) and replying to comments will almost certainly be delayed - please accept my humble apologies and I hope you enjoy what does appear here.
Love to all
Ben

Personal News (13/06/10)
This week I have had a very nice lesson in not lowering my expectations. Over the last couple of weeks I have had a couple of auditions that I was disappointed with - however it turns out that I need not have been.
I have been offered a five month contract with Theatre&, to start in August, and I've also got a role in Baby Jesus Freak; the play I was not invited back for a second audition for last week. In it I will be playing a Priest and a Counsellor. Rehearsals start tomorrow night.
Overall I've been pretty overjoyed.
(Still no Normal Heart news though!)

Personal News (30/05/10)
I missed the whole personal post last week because I was - wait fot it - working!
I know, utter shock.
Basically following the rather unsuccessful visit to the 24/7 festival Big Gathering (no men needed it seems) I collected an awful lot of flyers and put my name against just about everything on offer. One of those was the Queer Up North's 18th Birthday Bash, where comedian Chris Green (who is most famous for the Tina C character) was unvailing his latest comic persona: stage hypnotist Derek Diamond.
They needed some volunteers to improvise around the themes of characters and to interact with the audience as they arrived. For the night I was Quentin Bullington, Radio 4 presenter. It was a lot of fun, even if I didn't quite manage to have the confidence to manipulate the audience in the way Chris described prior to the event (sorry about that, Chris). What I will say is that all of the main events were absolutely excellent, with Jess Love's skipping performance being particularily hilarious.
I also met some great people and this is always a great opportunity to build up contacts.
One of the people I met who might just be a good contact for work in the longer term (who I won't name as this is hardly the right forum for that) I bumped into the following day as I attended Scriptworks at the Contact theatre. Scriptworks is a forum for new writers to try out their pieces with actors reading their works sight unseen. There's then a chance of feedback from all the other attendees. If you are a North West based new writer then I really suggest coming along as there's a great opportunity for feedback on your work.
I confess that I know about as much about writing as I know about the internal combustion engine (I understand the priciples but wouldn't know where to start when presented with the real thing), but it is great to go along and help. So far, after two weeks of attending, I've heard some excellent pieces. I'm still a newbie there so I'm getting a bit too much attention due to my slightly posh voice. But I think in a couple of weeks I'll be known enough to just turn up, sit at the back and chime in when I agree or disagree with a particular point.
On Thursday I attended an audition for Theatre&, the Learning & Development company. I think it mus have gone reasonably well, if not stellar, as I have received an e-mail saying they've added me to the database for any upcoming jobs. That's obviously a good thing, but on the other hand it means they've not signed me up for a full-time contract.
For those of you waiting patiently for the results of the Normal Heart second audition, the bad news is that it still hasn't happened. We came tantalisingly close on Friday, but then the actor(s) the director wanted me to audition with couldn't make it so an alternative date needs to be announced. I've decided to start to grow an 80's moustache to help. (After all I've no other work getting in the way right now, may as well go all out.)
