Eleanor Parker

Happy Birthday to

Eleanor Parker

88 today

She might be predominantly remembered for the Baroness (boo hiss) in The Sound of Music but it's worth remembering Ms Parker was a versatile leading lady in the 50's picking up 3 Academy Awards nominations. Saying that it is the Baroness that sticks in the mind, and tell me have you noticed her eyebrows in the scene where she tells Maria to go - they are acting all of their own volition it's a joy to watch.

I've shamefully haven't seen any of her Oscar noms. the one I'm most intrigued of is Detective Story.

I must be saving Cage for a future-years Best Actress 1950 rundown.

and Interrupted Story just seems so cheesy and I don't like Glenn Ford.

and then you have Sound of Music. she looked great in it. I can't believe the guy went for Julie Andrews with her boy-like haircut :P

Why an outwardly self respecting Naval captain would go for a woman who wears curtains is beyond me.

I haven't seen Interrupted story but Caged has every women's prison cliche you'd expect (pregnancy, lesbianism) but still manages to work.

Eleanor didn't register with me at all watching Detective Story, as much as I enjoyed the film.

She is so good in The Sound of Music, though. I always feel bad for the Baroness (remember playing ball, eeek)
