Happy Birthday to
Harvey Keitel
71 today
Harvey has an amazing capacity to appear in both fantastic films and incredible guff, although it's worth noting the better projects are drying up again (and no I'm not counting his voice cameo in Inglorious Basterds); in fact you need to go back to the mid 90's before he was last on form. I just hope his work as Gene Hunt in the American version of Life on Mars is winning some new fans.

You have been prolific the last few days. I need to catch up on all the great stuff you're posting!
Keitel was frightening in Taxi Driver, and warm and wise in Thelma and Louise.
What do you think his last great film appearance has been?
Good choice of roles for Keitel, definitely showing off his range.
I'd say his last good performance was in 2001's Taking Sides, about the Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic during the Second World War. He played the Major in charge of investigating his record during the de-Nazification of post-war Germany.
The last great performance may well have been his effortlessly cool role of "The Wolf" in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.
I love this guy.
